Specifically, the pastoral can be regarded as a site of reckoning, rather than escape, emphasizing the Romantic, colonial notion of nature exploration and leisure that YATTA names, “the white wander”. This artist uses Earth Music to underscore an expanded framework of landscape for those historically excluded from the right to wander the Earth with ease. YATTA considers Palm wine music, a hybrid of Portuguese fingerpicking and traditional West African folk, in which their great uncle, renowned Sierra Leonean guitarist, S.E. Rogie was a pioneer. This exhibit opening is free and open to the public, and reservations are essential. For more information, go to YATTA: Iron + Palm Wine - Art Omi.
